About the role
Assists senior mechanics in performing comprehensive maintenance and repairs on a variety of combustion-powered vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Performs removal and replacement of standard automotive parts such as spark plugs, belts, hoses, brake shoes, water pumps, and mufflers under direct supervision.
- Aids in making crucial vehicle settings and adjustments, including setting engine idle and timing, adjusting brakes, and gapping spark plugs.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment by strictly observing all environmental, safety, and security protocols.
- Utilizes standard and metric automotive hand and powered tools to complete repairs and maintenance tasks efficiently.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
- Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Currently have, or ability to obtain and provide to the employing office by the start of employment, a valid driver's license.
- Must be physically able to perform work that requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching, crawling under vehicles, and working in tight spaces or tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Must be physically able to lift parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Must be physically able to occasionally lift items 50 pounds or more with mechanical devices or with assistance from coworkers.
- This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
- A physical examination, arranged by the employer, is required prior to employment.
- Must be willing to accept intermittent, on-call employment.
- Work schedule will be irregular, and the incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or unique events.
- Must live within 100 miles of Fort Drum, NY.
- If a Non-U.S. National, must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. Territory for at least three years in a row right before starting this job.
Qualifications
- Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent from a trade school (must be uploaded at time of application).
- Possess creditable job-related experience in automotive repair (must be discoverable in your resume).
- Possess six (6) months of progressively general experience AND a minimum of six (6) months of specialized experience in automotive work (must be clearly identified with "MM/DD/YYYY - MM/DD/YYYY" in your resume).
- Have basic knowledge of automotive repair.
- Ability to use standard and metric automotive hand and powered tools.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
