Mechanic Helper

About the role

As a Mechanic Helper, you will assist the Mechanic in repairing fertilizer equipment and vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Cleans engines, equipment, and parts on fertilizer equipment and vehicles.
• Maintains shop and tools.
• Performs general housekeeping duties of shop and restroom.
• Washes vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Tests equipment and vehicles after repairs.
• May be required to operate a company vehicle.
• Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
• Ensures regular and reliable attendance.
• Follows all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Mechanically inclined is required.
• Knowledge of small engine repairs is required.
• Body work repair experience is preferred.
• Previous employment at a mechanic shop is preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak in English is required.
• Communicating in Spanish is a valuable skill.
• Valid U.S. driver's license is required and must meet all company requirements to drive a Helena vehicle.
• Applicants for positions requiring operation of a moving vehicle or interaction with heavy equipment must meet legal age requirements.
• Successful completion of a drug test and background check is required.

Work Environment & Physical Aspects

At Helena, safety is our highest priority. The work environment for this position is a warehouse/outdoor setting where the noise level is usually moderate to loud and occasionally very loud. You will work outdoors in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. In the warehouse, you will regularly work around moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations, and a risk of electrical shock.

• Use of hands for many different tasks, including talking, hearing, walking, sitting, and standing (8 hours a day or more).
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling (up to and including 50 lbs or more).
• Reaching overhead (up to and including 25 lbs).
• Climbing, gripping, grasping, and twisting using hands and wrists.
• Bending and stooping for long periods of time.
• Working below knee levels and above shoulder level for short periods.
