About the Role

The US Attorney's Office Northern District of Alabama is looking for a video editor and creator to support the district's mission of representing the interests of the United States in litigation and community affairs. This new position will create powerful content across video, social media, and emerging platforms, building the digital influence of the district.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Executive Assistant United States Attorney and the district Public Information Officer on a strategic communication plan, and develop content based on that plan for deployment to:
  • Social Media: Understand the different audiences and tones of each social media channel, craft posts that inform and engage followers, and drive traffic to district website(s).
  • Long-form Content: Create content such as profiles, Q&As, and news stories for the district website and pitch to other entities, news, and communications outlets as appropriate.
• Support social media monitoring and engagement by performing periodic sweeps of social media platforms to monitor district mentions and interactions.
• Ensure adherence to district, Department of Justice, and industry-wide standards and best practices.
• Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.

Requirements

• You must be a United States Citizen or National.
• Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
• Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
• You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
• If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
• You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

To be eligible at the GS 09 level, you must meet the definition of Specialized Experience as defined below:

• Specialized Experience: One full year (2,087 hours) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in federal service, including:
  • Capturing, editing, and producing photographic and video content for (non-personal) social media.
  • Creating multimedia content such as graphics, photography, and short-form videos.
  • Tailoring messages and/or media format to the appropriate social media platform while staying in line with customer branding and themes.
  • Ensuring various forms of media use similar thematic branding/brand identity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Captivate, etc.).
  • Experience with Camtasia Studios or similar video editing software.
  • Experience with GoldWave, SoundForge, or other audio editing software.
• Unpaid experience (e.g., freelance, volunteer, or part-time positions) is creditable if the work demonstrates the required ability. Your resume should clearly indicate the number of hours spent at each project/position.

OR Education: A Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field (e.g., photography, radio or television production, motion picture production) or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B or J.D. if related.

Combining Education and Experience: A combination of experience and graduate-level education can be used if, when combined, they are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. Only graduate-level education in excess of the first full year can be used in this calculation.
