Audiovisual Production Specialist
This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Training and Development. Available locations include:
- U.S. Border Patrol Academy - Artesia, New Mexico (2 positions)
- Field Operations Academy - Glynco, Georgia (2 positions)

Pay
This position starts at a salary of $89,508.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $116,362.00 (GS-12, Step 10), with promotion potential to $116,362.00 (GS-12, Step 10).

Responsibilities
- Serve as the overall producer/manager of audiovisual productions and recommend all administrative and logistical details.
- Assist with the development of production schedules, authorize the work of the scriptwriter, and ensure appropriate arrangement of location, sets, cues, props, and equipment.
- Select production crews, including the director, performers, camera operators, and others.
- Ensure the artistic and creative quality of audiovisual productions by collaborating with supervisors, producers, clients, and scriptwriters to translate scripts into effective visual elements that convey the intended message.
- Manage the artistic and creative aspects of productions.
- Prepare production processes for prerecorded video, including assembling, adjusting, and enhancing video and visual elements to create a polished final product.

Requirements

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
- Consulting with clients on general concepts, objectives, and target audiences of projects.
- Directing video productions by designing sets and lighting, conceiving visuals, selecting music and sound effects.
- Selecting and directing cameras and movement during taping and editing.
- Assisting in preparation of graphics and support requirements for production.

Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social).
You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable, and any applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band) by 08/24/2026.
Background Investigation

Residency Requirement
There is a residency requirement for applicants not currently employed by CBP. You must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet this requirement but have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request a residency waiver if you meet one of the following conditions:
- Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or military member.
- A dependent authorized to accompany a federal civilian or military member working for the U.S. government.
- Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S.-affiliated college or university.
- Working as a contractor, intern, consultant, or volunteer supporting the U.S. government.
Probationary Period
All new federal employees must serve a one-year probationary period during their first year of permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may also be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
