About the Department

The University of Chicago biomedical enterprise includes three entities: the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), and the Pritzker School of Medicine. About the Role

This role performs a range of technical processes and procedures related to the support of integrated audio-visual systems. The position works closely with staff and faculty to ensure classrooms, conference rooms, and other technology-enabled spaces are fully functional. Under general supervision, this role provides audio-visual support to BSD auditoriums, conference rooms, and classrooms across several BSD buildings, and may interact with University IT or UCM IT to restore service or identify and correct core problems. The role involves working independently within an assigned area while collaborating with a team of other technicians.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to BSD auditoriums, conference rooms, and classrooms across several BSD buildings.
• Guide end users through troubleshooting procedures.
• Perform upgrades to hardware and software.
• Log work in the ticketing system (ServiceNow).
• Intake work via phone, email, or ticketing system.
• Adhere to computer and data security standards in collaboration with faculty and staff.
• Research and analyze products and systems available in the marketplace and make recommendations to management.
• Research, develop, install, operate, and troubleshoot audio-visual systems, such as video conferencing, digital media, and desktop and network-based technologies.
• Provide projection services and presentation support for academic and public events within standard operating procedures.
• May provide informal mentorship to students in audio-video production.
• May provide informal training to other technicians and student staff.
• Perform other related work as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
• 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extron experience.
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
• Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks in a competent and professional manner in a fast-paced atmosphere.
• Ability to solve problems independently with limited direction.
• Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $28.85 - $36.06.
