Athletic Health Care Trainer - Lahainaluna High
About the role
The Athletic Health Care Trainer position involves developing and implementing standard operating procedures for the school's athletic health care program and training facility, conducting pre-participation evaluations, working with coaches to develop training programs, advising on protective equipment, monitoring athletic activities, providing first aid, and supervising training activities.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements standard operating procedures for the school's athletic health care program and training facility in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Covers practice and game situations, uses therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation protocols, manages injury procedures, and maintains emergency situation plans.
- Conducts pre-participation evaluations to screen for injury/illness risk factors.
- Works with coaches to develop and implement effective training and conditioning programs for student athletes.
- Advises the athletic director or coaches on the appropriate selection and fitting of protective equipment.
- Makes observations and decisions regarding the management of acute injuries, provides first aid, and determines when athletes can resume participation.
- Designs, constructs, and fits orthotic devices; supervises the operation of therapeutic devices and equipment; monitors athlete’s reintegration into program activities.
- Serves as a resource person and provides technical assistance to coaches, teachers, and other personnel regarding the health care of students and student athletes.
- Determines need for supplies and equipment, repair and maintenance services, etc.
- Organizes and implements in-service educational programs for coaches and other school personnel.
- Counsels and advises coaches, student athletes, and parents on matters regarding rehabilitation and treatment of specific injuries.
Requirements
- Current certification as an athletic trainer from the NATABOC.
- Current certification in ECC from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council.
- Valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Hawaii.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and a bachelor's degree in athletic training or a related field. Experience in athletic training is preferred but not required. Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Skills
Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in computer software are essential. Knowledge of first aid, CPR, and emergency cardiac care is required.
Benefits
Salary range: $5,527.00 - $6,728.00 per month. Includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. Pay
Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month. 12-month civil service and SSP employees enjoy a range of competitive benefits.
Schedule
Full-time position. Hours and schedule are determined by the employing school district.
