Athletic Health Care Trainer - Waimea High

About the role

The Athletic Health Care Trainer, SR-22, plays a crucial role in developing and implementing standard operating procedures for the school's athletic health care program and training facility. They are responsible for conducting pre-participation evaluations, working with coaches to develop training programs, advising on protective equipment, monitoring athletic activities, and providing first aid and emergency care.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements standard operating procedures for the school's athletic health care program and training facility in accordance with departmental guidelines.
• Conducts pre-participation evaluations to screen for injury/illness risk factors associated with participation in competitive athletics.
• Works with coaches to develop and implement effective training and conditioning programs for student athletes.
• Advises the athletic director and/or coaches on the appropriate selection and proper fitting of protective equipment.
• Makes decisions on the management of acute injuries and determines whether the injured athlete may resume participation in athletic activities.
• Provides appropriate first aid and emergency cardiac care (including CPR).
• Designs, constructs, and fits orthotic devices.
• Serves as a resource person and provides technical assistance to coaches, teachers, and other personnel regarding the health care of students and student athletes.
• Determines need for supplies and equipment, repair and maintenance services, etc.
• Counsels and advises coaches, student athletes, and parents on matters regarding rehabilitation and treatment of specific injuries.

Requirements

• Current certification as an athletic trainer from the NATABOC.
• Current certification in ECC from the American Red Cross (CPR/AED for the professional rescuer), American Heart Association (BLS for healthcare providers CPR/AED or advanced cardiac life support) or National Safety Council (professional rescuer CPR).
• Valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Hawaii.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an athletic trainer.
• Experience in managing and supervising athletic training activities.
• Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation protocols.
• Ability to make quick decisions in emergency situations.
• Strong interpersonal skills to counsel and advise coaches, student athletes, and parents.

Benefits

Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.

Pay

Payday: The first paycheck is typically received within the first 3 pay periods of the start date. Paydays are on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month.
