Responsibilities

  • Aid in the training of Transportation Officers on policies and procedures related to detainee transportation.
  • Schedule Transportation Officers’ work assignments.
  • Maintain oversight of Transportation Officers during the preparation, departure, and return from the facility to ensure the care and custody of detainees aligns with organizational and contractual requirements.
  • Report any issues to management for resolution.
  • Ensure maintenance services schedules and repairs of assigned vehicles are completed.
  • Review maintenance and repair work and newly acquired vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Respond to and investigate any accidents involving assigned Transportation Officers.
  • Transport detainees in emergency situations or when Transportation/Perimeter Officers are unavailable.
  • Issue orders for vehicle departures at specified times and according to posted schedules.
  • Ensure Transportation Officers’ semi-annual weapons qualifications are up-to-date.
  • Ensure all Mission Trackers are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain documentation and support records for monthly billings.
  • Maintain DOT files.
  • Stay updated on transportation regulations by attending at least eight hours of relevant training annually.
  • Create networks with transportation authorities to stay informed on industry developments.
  • Occasionally assume the duties of the Transportation Supervisor or Manager in their absence.

Qualifications

  • Meet all Transportation Officer qualifications.
  • Have one (1) year of transportation experience.
  • Hold a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Be familiar with DOT requirements for Hours of Service and Vehicle inspections.
  • Have the ability to set standards and procedures to maintain satisfactory levels of performance, quality, and productivity.
  • Have effective personnel interaction, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Show sound and effective leadership skills.
  • Be capable of training staff.
  • Write reports, memorandums, policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Use computers and relevant software typically used by the department.
