Key Responsibilities
- Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualifications (WPQ)
- Define welding parameters, joint designs, and welding sequences for critical components
- Optimize welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, Laser, Orbital, Robotic welding) for quality and efficiency
- Conduct welding trials for new products, materials, and thickness ranges
- Ensure compliance with ISO 3834, PED Module H, ASME Section IX, and relevant ISO/EN standards
- Conduct welding audits and process assessments
- Define and implement inspection and testing requirements including NDT (VT, PT, RT, UT)
- Monitor welding KPIs such as rejection rates, repair rates, and process capability
- Act as Responsible Welding Coordinator as per ISO 3834 requirements
- Review and approve welding documentation including WPS, weld maps, and repair procedures
- Support internal and external audits and certification processes
- Provide technical support for production issues related to welding
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of welding defects and implement corrective actions
- Support automation initiatives including robotic welding systems
- Ensure effective utilization of welding consumables and cost control
- Evaluate and approve suppliers for welding capability and compliance
- Review Supplier Welding Procedures And Welder Qualifications
- Drive supplier development initiatives for welding quality improvement
- Train welders, inspectors, and engineers on welding processes and quality requirements
- Ensure periodic qualification and certification of welding personnel
- Develop internal competencies aligned with ISO and PED requirements
- Collaborate with Design, Quality, Production, Purchase, and Industrial Engineering teams
- Support new product development with weldability assessment and cost optimization
- Contribute to TPM, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering
- PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Welding / Materials Engineering
- Certification: International Welding Engineer (IWE) / IWT / IWS preferred
- Minimum 15 years of experience in welding engineering in manufacturing industry
- Experience in pressure equipment, process industry, or similar environment preferred
