About the role
Responsible for actively participating, training, and mentoring the food service department crew members to enthusiastically demonstrate, educate, and sell in-store delicatessen products. Assists with leadership, planning and assigning work, coaching sessions, and administering discipline when needed. Conducts daily team huddles to communicate sales goals and reinforce guest service expectations.
Responsibilities
- Prepares delicatessen products for sale by incorporating ingredients to create fresh salads and entrées, slicing meat and cheese for charcuterie, frying and roasting chicken, packaging, pricing, labeling, and merchandising products following established department and company policies and procedures.
- Assists with writing and placing orders for all products and supplies, checking in orders upon receipt, dating, stocking, and organizing dry storage and coolers.
- Writes daily plans and weekly work schedules anticipating the needs of the business.
- Maintains merchandise rotation and ensures displays meet freshness guarantees at all times.
- Coordinates validation, item authorization, sign making, and POS maintenance for the food service department.
- Maintains accurate records for damaged/spoiled merchandise in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Complies with all food and workplace safety rules and regulations.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and sanitized work area and equipment.
- Works towards acquiring product knowledge within all departments to respond to guest questions and provide informative information about merchandise.
- Stays updated on weekly specials, coupons, and other company promotions to create an environment that delights guests.
- Works in and cultivates a team-oriented work environment that inspires collaboration and cooperation.
Qualifications
- Department operations experience or equivalent education to be knowledgeable of the nature of every position within the department.
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department including willingness to taste and evaluate delicatessen products.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures for proper handling of knives and other food service equipment.
- Strong work ethic with ability to follow instructions and procedures applying effective time management skills.
- Math skills necessary, but not limited to: the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, follow recipes, complete sales transactions, and calculate discounts.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communicator with ability to professionally and courteously interact with guests, crew members, store management team, corporate sales managers, and leadership.
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and detergents in order to clean and sanitize tools without allergic reaction.
- Ability to work around food ingredients, produce, and spices without allergic reaction.
- Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment use and work environment.
- Current State Food Handler’s Permit must be maintained.
Work Environment
- Primarily in a kitchen environment with exposure to machine-induced background noise, ice/wet areas, hot grills, fryers, slicers, freezers, and refrigerated areas.
- Required to join a labor union.
- Physical activity: Lifting (25-50 lbs. routinely), standing/walking, bending, twisting, reaching, fingering, pushing/pulling, sitting.
- Tools and equipment: Oven, fryer, steamers, microwaves, toasters, chill blasters, knives, rotisseries, wrappers, cooking utensils, slicers, graters, box knives, pans/bowls/dishes, fountain drink machines, ice machines, scales, computers, printers, telephones, Telzons, shopping carts, garbage compactors, bailers, flatbeds, hand trucks, ladders, calculators, dishwashers.
- Cleaning supplies: hand soaps, hand sanitizers, glass and multi-surface cleaners, floor degreasers, pot/pan detergents, block whiteners, bio-shield drain treatments, food-grade lubricants.
- Personal protective equipment: cut-resistant gloves, fryer gloves, heavy cotton oven mitts, heavy cotton sleeves, silicon oven mitts, heavy cotton gloves, goggles.
