About the role
The Employment Development Department (EDD) is one of the largest State departments with employees at hundreds of service locations. The Tax Branch is hiring one Associate Tax Auditor in the Field Audit and Compliance Division’s Van Nuys Area Audit Office, Technical Audit & Outreach Group.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule at the department’s discretion.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Department at tax or benefit hearings.
- Review petitions and account adjustments; prepare responses for complex employer accounts with multiple status issues.
- Assist Staff Tax Auditors in identifying and developing audit leads for out-of-state and local Area Audit Offices.
- Conduct cost-free employer seminars and participate in outreach events.
Headquarters is in Van Nuys, CA. Employees must reside in California to telework and may be required to report to the office as needed. Travel expenses to the headquarters are the employee’s responsibility.
Requirements
- Departmental Promotional exam eligibility (for EDD employees only).
- Meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification.

Pay
$6,646.00 - $8,740.00 per month. New hires start at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range.
Effective July 1, 2025, certain employees will receive a 2% - 4.62% salary reduction in exchange for Personal Leave Program hours.
Schedule
- Permanent, full-time position.
- Work shift: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
- Hybrid telework may be available.
