James Madison University’s Athletics Department is seeking an Associate Director of Video Services to join the Creative Services team. This position reports to the Director of Video Services and focuses on producing video content that highlights the student-athlete experience and supports 18 varsity sport programs and athletics facilities. An online portfolio is required for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, produce, and deliver video content consistent with the JMU Athletics brand, aligned with department goals, and targeted to engage fans, alumni, student-athletes, coaches, and recruits.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Video Services and the creative services team to build strategies for multimedia content, including social media, video boards, and internal video needs.
  • Assist the Director of Video Services with staff assignments for event coverage, including all athletic home events, special events, and travel as needed. Schedule includes night and weekend work throughout the year for all 18 varsity sports.
  • Supervise and recruit student staff, ensuring they understand responsibilities and assignments. Manage participation from student contributors.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, organizational standards for the video server, digital tools, video archives, and other video resources.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Video Services to meet video needs across athletics.
  • Develop relationships with the creative services team, students, and external operation team members, including JMU Duke Club, Ticketing, Fan Engagement, Athletics Communications and Broadcast, Facilities/Events, Daktronics, JMU Sports Properties, and all 18 varsity sport programs.

Requirements

  • Experience in Collegiate Athletics Creative Video or Professional Sports Video content.
  • Experience creating compelling content that positively reflects the athletics department’s brand and goals.
  • Strong videography skills, including shooting, editing, coloring, and knowledge of output settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the video production process, camera operation, lens types, filming techniques, light design, and post-production.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Proficient time management and prioritization skills.
  • Availability on weeknights and weekends.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage a heavy load of deliverables while delegating projects within the video staff.
  • Highly motivated, energetic, and able to balance multiple tasks while producing high-quality work on tight deadlines.
  • Dependability, consistency, and willingness to take risks and learn new things.
  • A team player who collaborates well with others and respects the departmental reporting structure.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff and student workers.

Pay

Maximum starting pay rate: $51,750.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check. New hires are required to complete an I-9 form and present documentation of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
