About the role

The Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence & Market Research plays a pivotal role in the Commercial Operations & Analytics team at Agios. This role leads market research and competitive intelligence functions across the company's marketed and pipeline portfolio, focusing on rare and genetically defined diseases. The role integrates primary and secondary research to provide actionable insights that inform brand and portfolio strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead primary market research, qualitative and quantitative studies to build foundational customer understanding for pre-launch and in-line brands
  • Integrate primary research with secondary data analytics to provide clear, actionable insights that shape commercial strategy and proactively anticipate the organization's next questions
  • Provide an objective assessment of the external environment and recommend strategies and tactics to strengthen positioning and respond to competitor dynamics
  • Lead competitive intelligence for the portfolio, systematically monitoring competitor activity across in-line and pipeline dynamics (clinical, regulatory, commercial, and scientific congress developments), and translating the implications into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Apply practical AI and scalable approaches to accelerate competitive monitoring, alerting, and synthesis, and deliver timely competitive read-outs to cross-functional teams and leadership
  • Partner with brand and commercial teams on strategy development and tactical execution across the product lifecycle, contributing customer and competitive insight to launch planning and readiness
  • Participate in key cross-functional teams – early commercial, brand, and portfolio – to ensure strategic decisions reflect market intelligence and customer insight
  • Direct third-party research vendors effectively, on time and within budget

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in market research and competitive intelligence in the biopharmaceutical industry, with hands-on depth in primary market research and secondary data analytics; bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise designing and executing primary market research (qualitative and quantitative) and integrating it with secondary data into actionable insight that shapes commercial strategy
  • Experience leading competitive intelligence across a portfolio, with the ability to synthesize and communicate implications succinctly to varied audiences; familiarity with practical AI applications to competitive intelligence preferred
  • Leverage launch experience – pre-launch, launch, and post-launch – with an understanding of cross-functional dependencies and processes
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to draw insight from complex claims and secondary datasets
  • Inquisitive, strategic mindset; able to challenge assumptions, go beyond the obvious answer, and turn ambiguous business questions into actionable plans
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and influencing skills; comfortable partnering across marketing, medical affairs, market access, clinical, and advanced analytics
  • Excellent communication skills; able to distill complex analyses into clear narratives and recommendations, with confidence in front of executive-level audiences
  • Experience in rare or genetically defined diseases preferred; experience managing third-party research vendors on time and within budget

Pay

The current base salary range for this position is expected to be between $153,541 and $230,312 annualized; final salary will be determined based on various factors including, but not limited to, years of relevant experience, job knowledge, skills and proficiency, degree/education, and internal comparators.

Schedule

Location Agnostic: Work location for this role is based on employee’s individual preference. This role has the ability to be either remote in the US or hybrid in our Cambridge Headquarters. Hybrid schedules vary but are generally less than 3 days per week onsite and hybrid employees are expected to live within commutable distance to our Cambridge Headquarters. Remote employees work entirely from home except for attending Company sponsored events/meetings.
