About the role

The United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Indiana seeks a mission-driven Assistant U.S. Attorney to serve within the Civil Division's Immigration Section. This role involves defending civil immigration cases and investigating and litigating affirmative immigration cases.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high-volume docket of immigration cases, including habeas corpus challenges, Administrative Procedure Act challenges, and constitutional claims.
  • Investigate and litigate affirmative immigration cases such as denaturalization actions and immigration-related fraud.
  • Interact with agency clients and opposing counsel, and engage in all aspects of federal court practice, including motions, discovery, negotiated settlements, and appeals.
  • Assist with other types of matters as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent) and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) by entry on duty date.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
  • Conditions of employment include a favorable background investigation and compliance with preemployment adjudication.

Qualifications

  • Required: J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active bar membership.
  • Preferred: Organizational ability to handle a large caseload and at least one year of post-graduation legal experience.

Pay and Schedule

Assistant United States Attorneys' pay is administratively determined based on years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $65,563.00 to $171,475.00. Locality pay varies depending on duty location.
