Assistant United States Attorney (Civil)
About the role
The United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida (MDFL), seeks to hire an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) to serve in the Civil Division. The selected candidate will represent the U.S. Government on a wide range of unique and complex civil cases.
Responsibilities
- Represent the U.S. Government in civil cases
- Provide Federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime
- Seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior
- Administer and enforce the Nation's laws to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice
Requirements
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Qualifications
- Must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent) and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) by entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current law students taking a July 2026 bar examination may be considered, subject to the foregoing requirements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Benefits
Salary is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes, in part, paid vacation; sick leave; holidays; telework; life insurance; health benefits; and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.
Pay
$76,748 to $197,100 which includes 17.06% locality pay.
Schedule
Occasional travel is required.
