About the role

Assist the Head Track and Field coach in instructing students in sports fundamentals, sportsmanship, and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching responsibilities as assigned by the head coach.
  • Assist in the organization, preparation, and coaching of the Husson Track and Field Team, including:
    • Attendance at all practices and meets
    • Recruiting and scouting off-campus
  • Implement the basic principles and policies of the athletic governing bodies (NCAA and NAC) and Husson University.
  • Assist in monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure they meet academic course requirements, using tools like Dropout Detective, and provide guidance to support their success.
  • Assist in monitoring the conduct of student-athletes and teach athletes to work together.
  • Assist with recruiting, including:
    • On-campus tours, phone calls, and off-campus viewing
    • Organizing overnight visits, coordinating team hosts, and communicating with admissions
  • Develop and implement a Strength and Conditioning program for all cross country and track and field programs.
  • Meet daily with the head coach to discuss instruction, training, scrimmages, meets, and recruiting activities.
  • Assist with all aspects of meet preparation, including hotels, meals, buses, travel rosters, and Direct Athletics.
  • Maintain Track and Field records.
  • Directly support the head coach with related assignments for Cross Country and Track and Field programs, such as fundraising, team volunteer activities, Spring Break, and transportation.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Athletics and/or the Executive Director of Athletics with administrative duties, day-to-day operational tasks, and event management as needed.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Prior intercollegiate coaching and/or playing experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license, successful driver’s license background check, and completion of a van familiarization course required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess the skills to function in a variety of roles that interact positively with administration, faculty, coaching staff, student-athletes, and all other constituents on and off campus. The ability to work successfully in a highly competitive, NCAA Division III collegiate environment is essential.
