Assistant Supervisor - Laboratory

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily laboratory operations and testing activities
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital standards
• Oversee quality control, quality assurance, and testing accuracy
• Train, mentor, and assess staff competency and performance
• Perform bench testing and provide technical support as needed
• Troubleshoot equipment, testing, and workflow issues
• Monitor turnaround times and laboratory performance metrics
• Manage inventory, supplies, and vendor relationships
• Affiliate with hiring, payroll, scheduling, and departmental administration
• Support process improvement initiatives and departmental goals
• Escalate quality, compliance, and operational concerns to leadership
• Participate in performance improvement, education, and special projects as needed

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related science required
• Experience: Minimum 4-6 years of relevant hospital laboratory experience required
• Experience: Experience supervising, mentoring, training, or leading laboratory staff preferred
• Knowledge: Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
• Experience: Experience troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and testing systems
• Familiarity: Familiarity with laboratory information systems and laboratory software applications
• Licenses & Certifications: New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (CLAB) required
• Certifications: ASCP Certification preferred, NCA Certification preferred
