About the Role
The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Supervisor / TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist 1 in Virology & Molecular Pathology.
- Maintain compliance with departmental, hospital, and regulatory requirements.
- Function as Assistant Supervisor responsible for the operation of a laboratory.
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, review quality control, and performance improvement activities.
- Perform clinical laboratory procedures and examinations, including tests conducted by the virology and molecular labs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting on virology and molecular instruments.
- Assure timely performance of laboratory testing procedures.
- Train personnel in technical methodology and interpretation of results.
- Record and archive operational test and QC results.
- Maintain inventory and statistics.
- Schedule and assign staff to specific job functions.
- Assist in coordinating administrative operations for the laboratories.
- Demonstrate flexibility and perform other job-related tasks as needed or required.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
- Bachelor of Science Degree and 6 years of experience, including 2 years of supervisory/administrative capacity.
- ASCP certification or equivalent.
- Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of supervisory experience in microbiology laboratories.
