Assistant Superintendent
About the Role
The primary function of the Assistant Project Superintendent is to assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent, or other assigned supervisor(s) in all matters related to field activities for a specific project. An Assistant Project Superintendent may also be assigned overall responsibility for a smaller project where appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Capable of leading the Project Superintendent role on projects with budgets ranging from $1M to $10M, under various delivery methods, across diverse market sectors, and with varying complexities—without supervision.
- Assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent, or other assigned supervisors on large project teams.
- Manage a segment or area of a large project as part of a team.
- Assist with the initial preparation and maintenance of project schedules.
- Support the development, maintenance, and enforcement of project site safety programs.
- Coordinate and manage material procurement and deliveries.
- Implement all SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) measures and documentation.
- Maintain a complete and accurate set of working documents for the project.
- Coordinate all field inspections and testing.
- Read and understand all project documents, including subcontracts and associated exhibits, and enforce contractual obligations in the field.
- Provide field information that impacts the accuracy of the Monthly Reconciliation Report and forecasts.
- Develop, implement, and enforce project-specific quality control measures.
- Prepare and maintain eight-week look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate daily subcontractor activities.
- Provide input to the Project Manager on field activities with cost impacts; follow WEO procedures for documenting change orders and back-charge-related work.
- Document all actions related to actual or possible claims/legal action.
- Oversee WEO-employed or third-party laborer responsibilities.
- Manage all onsite activities under the direction of the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Attend and document weekly Foreman meetings; actively participate in meetings related to managed work.
- Lead onsite safety meetings, including completion of weekly Site Safety Surveys.
- Understand and enforce WEO and Cal-OSHA safety standards.
- Collect manpower counts and daily reports for each subcontractor; write concise, comprehensive descriptions of daily work in WEO daily reports.
- Create and manage completion and punch lists; assist with timely completion of all punch list items.
Qualifications
- Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience in a related field, or 3-5 years of relevant project field experience as a Field Engineer or equivalent.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Project or P6 Scheduling Software and Project Management Software (e.g., Prolog, Viewpoint, CMiC, or equivalent).
- General knowledge and experience using daily software tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Safety Mojo, BIM 360 Glue).
- Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Understanding of construction administration processes, including construction documents, schedules, RFIs, submittals, and material procurement.

Physical Demands
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to:
- Climb permanent and temporary stairs and use construction personnel hoists.
- Climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Sit, talk, hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
