About the role
D.R. Horton is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Superintendent to support the construction of quality homes while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with trade partners, and developing their leadership skills within residential construction.
In this role, you'll work alongside the Superintendent to help manage daily construction activities, maintain quality and safety standards, support scheduling efforts, and ensure homes are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist with overseeing daily construction activities and monitoring progress against schedules
- Conduct daily home inspections to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with plans and specifications
- Coordinate and participate in required inspections with local authorities
- Help manage trade partners to ensure quality, safety, productivity, and cost expectations are met
- Perform pre-closing inspections to confirm homes are complete, clean, and move-in ready
- Conduct homeowner orientations and follow-up walkthroughs to ensure a positive customer experience
- Support community and jobsite maintenance, ensuring clean and organized work environments
- Assist with material management to minimize waste, damage, and theft
- Promote and enforce all company safety standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Build positive working relationships with homeowners, subcontractors, inspectors, and team members
- Develop knowledge of residential construction practices, building codes, materials, and scheduling processes
- Support the Superintendent in maintaining project schedules, quality standards, and budget objectives
- Serve as a resource on-site when the Superintendent is unavailable
- Conduct all business with professionalism, integrity, and a customer-first mindset
- Work overtime or additional hours as needed to support business objectives
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 6 months to 2 years of experience in residential construction, construction operations, or a related field
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel between construction sites during daytime and evening hours as needed
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering an outstanding homeowner experience
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and related documents
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and effectively manage priorities
- Comfortable interacting with homeowners, subcontractors, team members, and management at all levels
- Ability to use construction-related applications on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and email
- Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field
- Ability to remain organized and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Desire to develop leadership skills and advance within the construction industry
