About the role

At Boyd Jones, Assistant Superintendents are developed into field leaders who oversee safe, coordinated, and high-quality work on construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily safety planning, pre-task discussions, field observations, and corrective-action follow-through.

  • Reinforce safe work practices with trade partners and maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.

  • Help develop and maintain short-term look-ahead plans reflecting actual field conditions.

  • Cook up manpower, materials, equipment, access, inspections, and work sequencing to prepare crews and meet commitments.

  • Maintain a visible presence in the field, conduct regular field walks, support daily huddles, and subcontractor coordination meetings.

  • Answer questions, identify constraints, and communicate developing issues before they affect safety, quality, or schedule.

  • Verify installations against drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and Boyd Jones standards.

  • Support pre-installation planning, QA/QC inspections, punch-list completion, and clean project turnover.

  • Review RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, and other project information for field impacts.

  • Work closely with the Superintendent, Project Manager, and Project Engineer to ensure decisions, changes, and commitments are clearly communicated and documented.

  • Take increasing ownership of assigned areas or scopes, build technical knowledge across trades, strengthen leadership skills, and contribute ideas that improve planning, workflow, communication, and project execution.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of commercial construction, skilled-trade, field coordination, or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience as a carpenter, laborer, operator, foreman, or other field leader strongly valued.

  • Working knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, sequencing, and jobsite coordination.

  • Confidence communicating with trade partners, project teams, inspectors, and other stakeholders.

  • Strong organization, follow-through, judgment, and willingness to address issues directly.

  • Experience with digital plans, tablets, construction applications, and Procore preferred.

  • A commitment to working safely and continuously developing as a construction leader.
