About the role

The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach provides a sound strength & conditioning program to student-athletes that is safe and effective. Duties include teaching proper exercise techniques, providing health and safety education, and working with student athletes on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and monitoring proper technique of exercises performed by student-athletes.
  • Provides instruction of physical health, team concepts, and safety to student athletes.
  • Works with head coaches of assigned sports programs in conducting, arranging, and monitoring workouts.
  • Conducts pre-competition warm-up and stretch and sideline management for football games.
  • Supervises and maintains facility for safety.
  • Supports the Missouri Southern Athletics Department's endeavors and advancement.
  • Operates within the guidelines of Missouri Southern State University, MIAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Develops and maintains quality relationships within the community both on and off-campus.
  • Promotes the athletic well-being of student-athletes.
  • Conducts summer camps and clinics, if warranted.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Certification with either Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or USA Weightlifting (USA-W).
  • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful coaching experience with Division I or II preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage people.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to teach the skills and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-athletes.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in working with a diverse population.
  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university’s insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or NCAA and MIAA regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence (i.e. Recruiting letters). Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of media, administrators, faculty, staff, students, public groups and/or Board of Governors.

Qualifications

  • Requires the ability to oversee purchasing authority up to $3,000 without approval from supervisor.
  • Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or NCAA and MIAA regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence (i.e. Recruiting letters).
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of media, administrators, faculty, staff, students, public groups and/or Board of Governors.
