Assistant Shop Technician
About the role
The Assistant Shop Technician is responsible for many day-to-day responsibilities to keep the shop running safely and smoothly, as well as assisting with repairs and maintenance of rotating equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, valves, blowers, and vacuum pumps. The services may be performed in our repair facility located in West Springfield, MA, or may be completed in the field at a customer’s facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Completes initial inspection and required paperwork for all items to be repaired or serviced.
- Aid Shop Technicians with teardown and inspections of equipment.
- Aid Shop Management with the incoming receiving of customers' equipment and document incoming condition(s).
- Aid with sandblasting responsibilities.
- Help maintain shop housekeeping.
- Maintain and complete required paperwork and time sheet.
- Assist Management with compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Clean up shop and perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Willingness to learn and be a team player.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills.
- Driver’s license, DOT card a plus.
- Strong work ethic with ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Versatile communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate with engineering, technical support, sales, and management.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- LOTO, DOT regulations, Confined space, basic welding & NEMA all a plus for this position.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds unassisted. This role requires the ability to use electric and manual lifting devices.
Travel
Travel will be local. There may be times when overnight travel is required, but that will be an exception.
