Job Description

Job Title: Parts Inventory Manager
Department: Traffic
FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Acts as manager of the parts department; responsible for maintaining parts inventory; ensuring that the necessary parts are on hand to keep repair department operating at maximum efficiency.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maximizes use of RTA system to establish inventory levels, maintain consignment levels, tracks back ordered parts and track repair frequencies on equipment (30%)
  • Maintains warranty items and files claims ensuring maximum credits on all warranty items. Reviews all scrap parts and tracks core returns and credits. (30%)
  • Maintains inventory storage system, equipment, bin locations, bin number and bin tags. (20%)
  • Develops internet communication with vendors, accessing on-line parts catalogs ordering and establishing consignment levels. (20%)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics

  • Solves practical problems; several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Able to do Arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Able to interpret written work instructions; understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically able to perform very heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from 20 inches or less to 20 feet or more with or without correction, depth perception, color vision and field of vision.
  • Able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

  • The duties of this position are performed in a repair shop setting. There is exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemical or solvents, and electrical shock.
  • There may be occasional travel and over time required.

Equipment Used To Perform Job

  • Performs data entry of job orders and parts used on computer inventory system, phone, intercom, office equipment, pallet jack and forklift.

Confidentiality

  • Works with parts pricing, accident and damage investigation.

Financial Responsibility

$100,000 or more parts inventory.
A well maintained parts inventory is essential to the efficient operation of the department. Excessive inventories as well as parts shortages directly impact labor and productivity.

  • Daily contact with truck drivers, mechanics, outside vendors, office personnel and other department employees.

Education And Experience

  • High school or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with automotive parts and repairs.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Courses or technical certification in truck maintenance helpful.
  • Three years of similar or related experience.
