Assistant Project Manager - WA
Assists in the preparation of estimates, project budgets, and unit cost reports for construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Organizes and conducts pre-construction planning meetings.
- Participates in the successful negotiation of project subcontracts.
- Assists the project team in preparing the project management plan and planning the successful execution of the construction contract.
- Participates in value engineering services as appropriate.
- Obtains and reviews plans and specifications to determine their completeness and consistency.
- Assists the project owner in obtaining permits and resolving regulatory requirements.
- Assists in the preparation of project schedules and develops milestones in concert with the Project Superintendent.
- Participates in project schedule updates as needed.
- Develops monthly client pay requests and follows up on collections to ensure timely payment per contract terms.
- Controls payment of job and subcontractor costs based on construction progress and document review.
- Coordinates with the job cost accountant for payments and lien releases.
- Participates in monthly job cost reviews to assess project status and increase profitability.
- Manages project material and equipment procurement within budget and schedule constraints.
- Develops and monitors project quality, safety, and risk management plans.
- Negotiates owner and subcontractor change orders and manages resulting schedule, cost, and profit impacts.
- Attends, directs as needed, and takes notes for project team meetings, including weekly Owner/Architect and subcontractor coordination meetings.
- Coordinates all final close-out procedures, including as-built drawings, punch lists, final billing, occupancy permits, owner acceptance, project manuals, warranty letters, subcontractor close-out, and letters of substantial completion and recommendation.
- Participates in post-completion project reviews and provides information for Preconstruction databases.
- Trains and mentors project and field engineers and other team members.
- Manages project engineers to ensure construction compliance through submittals, RFIs, document revisions, and other documentation.
- Updates and implements software programs for collaboration, quality, and document management.
- Develops and maintains owner relationships.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years of commercial construction experience.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of construction laws, building codes, and design requirements; ability to read blueprints correctly.
- Adherence to Abbott Construction’s standards of ethics, conduct, and organizational policies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to formulate alternative solutions from diverse data sources.
- Ability to work collaboratively and support co-workers, customers, and others.
- Strong planning and resource allocation skills.
- Highly organized, efficient, and capable of managing multiple events to achieve goals.
- Self-starter who works well without close supervision and has a record of achieving aggressive goals.
- Professional affiliations (e.g., AGC member) and credentials (e.g., PE) preferred.
- Ability to speak basic Spanish commands, questions, and instructions regarding construction preferred.
- Strong computer and technical skills; ability to learn new software programs quickly.
Pay
The full salary range for this position is $85,000 to $115,000. This position is eligible for a target bonus.

Sick leave accrues at one (1) hour for every 30 hours worked, capped at 240 hours. Unused sick leave up to 240 hours may be carried over annually.
