About the Role

The Division of Neurology and the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Department of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) are seeking a neurologist with training in neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) for the position of Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology and Pediatrics. This full-time faculty role will join a team of 20 faculty members, with preference given to candidates who have completed an NDD fellowship.

About the Division

The Division of Neurology is part of the Neurosciences Service Line (the Neurological Institute), a key service line at CHLA undergoing rapid expansion. The division is developing comprehensive clinical general and subspecialty child neurology programs while enhancing its research portfolio. An integrated clinic space for the Divisions of Neurology and Neurosurgery opened in Spring 2021, aiming to offer comprehensive and patient-centered neurologic services.

• Active outpatient neurology clinic with subspecialty programs in:
  • Neuromuscular disorders (MDA)
  • Epilepsy (including epilepsy surgery, VNS, and ketogenic diet)
  • Movement disorders (including deep brain stimulation and baclofen pump)
  • Neuro-intensive care
  • Pediatric stroke
  • Neurocutaneous disorders
  • Demyelinating disorders
• Outpatient clinical services provided at CHLA and five satellite locations in the greater Los Angeles area
• ACGME-approved child neurology residency program in collaboration with KSOM LAC + USC/University Hospital, accepting three residents per year
• Ongoing clinical research within general child neurology and subspecialty programs

Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program

CHLA has a long history of clinical programs for children with NDDs, primarily housed in behavioral health and developmental pediatrics. These clinics provide assessment and treatment regardless of insurance status. The neurology division, led by Dr. Jonathan Santoro, plans to establish a multidisciplinary NDD program integrating with existing clinics while focusing on patients with comorbid neurological conditions, genetic syndromes, and severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.

• Platform for clinical trials, registries, and research studies on NDDs, including cause, early prediction, trajectory, and outcomes
• Strong collaboration with the CHLA Center for Personalized Medicine, offering in-house genetic testing for NDDs with support from affiliated genetic counselors

CHLA is the principal pediatric referral resource in the Southwestern United States and was ranked #5 on the U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll, with 10 nationally ranked pediatric specialties.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care in neurodevelopmental disorders within the Neurology Division
• Contribute to the development and expansion of the multidisciplinary NDD program
• Engage in clinical research, trials, and registries focused on NDDs
• Collaborate with behavioral health, developmental pediatrics, and the Center for Personalized Medicine
• Participate in the child neurology residency program and educational initiatives

Requirements

• Board-certified or board-eligible in Neurology with special qualification in Child Neurology
• Completion of a fellowship in Neurodevelopmental Disorders (preferred)
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in clinical care, research, and education related to NDDs
• Eligibility for medical licensure in California

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is $95,904–$325,712. Offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities, work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal/state/local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, and external market and organizational considerations.
