About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is expanding and seeking exceptional candidates to join the faculty. The Neuroanesthesia and Perioperative Neurosciences Division provides perioperative care for patients undergoing elective and emergency neurosurgical and neuro-interventional procedures at:

  • University of Miami Hospital (560 beds)
  • Jackson Memorial Hospital (1,550 beds)
  • Ryder Trauma Center (treats approximately 5,000 patients annually)

The division collaborates closely with neurosurgery and orthopedic surgical services to ensure optimum perioperative care. Annually, the division oversees more than 1,000 spine procedures, 1,000 neurological procedures, and 300 neuro-interventional procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of a US-approved residency in Anesthesiology
  • Minimum of one year of Neuro-anesthesiology fellowship training or equivalent training and certification
  • Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology (equivalence may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Research experience is highly desirable but not required

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality clinical care in neuroanesthesia and, as needed, general anesthesia
  • Supervise residents, fellows, CRNAs, and SRNAs
  • Perform cases independently when required
  • Engage in academic activities, including teaching and mentoring trainees
  • Participate in departmental conferences, faculty meetings, and research (clinical or basic)
  • Contribute to medical education by teaching residents, fellows, and medical students

Effort distribution may vary based on departmental needs, candidate interests, and success in obtaining extramural grant funding.
