About the Role

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is expanding and seeks exceptional candidates to join the Pain Medicine faculty. This position is primarily focused on providing chronic outpatient pain services in clinics affiliated with the University of Miami Health System. The effort distribution may change based on department needs, candidate’s interests, and success in obtaining extramural grant funding for research.

Requirements

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pain Medicine
  • Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology
  • Board Eligibility or Certification for Added Qualification in Pain Medicine (equivalence may be considered on a case-by-case basis)

While research experience and teaching are not required, they are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat patients with a wide variety of acute and chronic pain conditions, including cancer-related pain, spine pain, neuropathic, and musculoskeletal pain
  • Utilize various treatment modalities, such as medication management, interventional procedures, and referrals to physical therapy and other specialties
  • Perform fluoroscopically guided and ultrasound-guided spine and peripheral procedures, including spine and joint injections, radiofrequency ablations, peripheral nerve blocks, and interventional modalities with implantable devices (e.g., spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal delivery systems)
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary specialties, including Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Hematology/Oncology, PM&R, physical therapy, and behavioral health
  • Supervise residents, Pain Medicine Fellows, and ARNPs, while also being comfortable seeing patients and performing procedures independently if required
  • Participate in the department's academic activities, including teaching, mentoring trainees, and attending departmental conferences, committees, and faculty meetings
  • Engage in academic scholarly activities, such as research (desirable)

Pay

Compensation depends on years of experience and the determination of professorial rank at the time of hiring.
