Position Summary

The Department of Biology at Austin Peay State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor-Disease Ecologist. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position to begin August 2024. We are seeking a colleague whose interests complement and expand the Department’s existing strengths in ecology and molecular biology (http://www.apsu.edu/biology). Potential areas of interest include Human Diseases, Ecophysiology, and Host-Pathogen Interactions. We are seeking candidates with experience in mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to improving access of under-served populations to graduate and professional programs in biology.

About the role

This position will contribute to the academic mission of Austin Peay State University by conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and providing service to the university and profession. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an active research program that aligns with the department's research priorities, mentor students, and engage in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research in the field of Disease Ecology
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Ecology, Molecular Biology, and related fields
  • Mentor students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from under-served populations
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and initiatives
  • Develop and maintain an active research program that aligns with the department's research priorities
  • Engage in professional development activities and contribute to the advancement of the field

Requirements

  • A PhD in Ecology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field by the start date
  • Strong record of research productivity and potential for external funding
  • Experience in mentoring students from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to improving access of under-served populations to graduate and professional programs in biology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Qualifications

  • Research expertise in Disease Ecology
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Ecology and Molecular Biology
  • Proven ability to mentor students from diverse backgrounds
