Assistant Professor - Agriculture (Soils)
The Department of Agriculture at APSU seeks an outstanding candidate to fill a full time 9-month tenure-track position in Agriculture (Soils) to start Fall semester 2024. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.
About the role
The Department of Agriculture at Austin Peay State University is part of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Its offices, labs, and classrooms are housed in the Sundquist Science Complex on the Clarksville campus. APSU’s Agriculture Department is a growing program with approximately 200 undergraduate agriculture majors in six concentrations: Agri-Business, Agri-Communications, Agri-Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technology, and Sustainable Development. The Department oversees the 440-acre Farm & Environmental Education Center located three miles from the main campus which houses the new $1.2-million Brock Blick building with a 50-seat classroom and lab facilities. The Farm is used by the department for hands-on education, laboratories, field trips, student organizations, field days, and Ag-judging contests. Private farms, forests, agricultural industries, and vet clinics also are used to support classroom learning activities.
Responsibilities
Teach courses in Agriculture (Soils) within the Department of Agriculture at APSU. Provide high-quality instruction that aligns with the department's mission and goals. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative educational programs. Participate in curriculum development and assessment processes. Maintain current knowledge of Agricultural Sciences through professional development and research.
Requirements
PhD in Agriculture (Soils) or a closely related field from an accredited institution. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. Experience in higher education and/or relevant industry experience preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
