Assistant/Associate Professor in Agricultural Animal Field Service
About the role
The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks to fill a full-time open rank (assistant professor/associate professor/professor) continuous career track faculty position in Agricultural Animal Field Service.
Veterinarians with agricultural animal clinical experience are encouraged to apply – residency training is not required.
The successful applicant will join a dedicated team of faculty and staff focused on multiple aspects of agricultural animal health including in-hospital and ambulatory clinical service, clinical and preclinical teaching, production/population medicine, extension, and research/scholarship.
Responsibilities
- Emphasize agricultural animal ambulatory clinical service and clinical teaching, with up to 75% effort devoted to these activities.
- Provide agricultural animal clinical ambulatory service for the VTH, to a variety of livestock operations including beef (cow-calf and feedlot), dairy, small ruminant, camelids and swine.
- Communicate with practitioners, owners and farm workers, and collaborate with colleagues in the CVM, CAHNRS, and the University of Idaho Department of Animal Sciences.
- Be responsible for clinical instruction and supervising veterinary students and house officers in the field service setting.
- Teach in the DVM and house officer graduate programs, participating in lecture courses, discussions, and case-based learning and laboratories.
- Lead experiential student learning rotations on cooperating livestock operations in the region focused on population/production medicine.
Requirements
- A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (VMD, BVSc) with a minimum of 3 years clinical experience as an agricultural animal veterinarian.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work collegially and collaboratively with people from all backgrounds and a commitment to fostering community outreach, access and engagement.
- Board-eligibility by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) Dairy, Beef, or Food Animal Practice at the time of hire is desirable.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (VMD, BVSc).
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience as an agricultural animal veterinarian.

Pay
Annual Salary: $145,000 - $165,000 | Commensurate with qualification and experience.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
Considerations regarding rank will be determined based on the interests and qualifications of the candidate, as will division of time between clinical duty and teaching.
Applicants for associate professor must have a higher level of clinical and teaching experience as compared to assistant professor applicants. Likewise for applicants for the professor rank in comparison to candidates at the associate professor level.
Schedule
Full-time (100% FTE) permanent position.
