Job Description

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences is creating an environment that affirms community across all dimensions. This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position that will be 60% research and 40% teaching, available in the Agronomy Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida. This assignment may change with the needs of the unit. Tenure will accrue in the Agronomy Department, and the position is based in Gainesville, Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong applied and/or basic research and education program focused on forage-livestock production systems and their interaction with the environment.
  • Conduct studies on fertilization and irrigation of forages, ecophysiology, grassland ecology, evaluation of new forage cultivars and breeding lines, animal performance and behavior, forage ecology, or other topics of interest to a state, regional, and national audience.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, especially the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, aligning the research and education programs with the priorities of the allied industry.
  • Seek external funding to support the program and publish regularly in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the UF/IFAS Forage Team, as well as with faculty across departments and research and education units throughout the state.
  • Teach three forage-specific courses, with one at the undergraduate and two at the graduate level.
  • Participate in graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, and publishing the results with graduate students.

Qualifications

  • A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Agronomy or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
  • Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system and committed to UF core values.
  • Postdoctoral experience in the discipline is desirable.
