Position Purpose

The Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach supports learning by overseeing student development efforts for the university’s athletic department and assists in the day-to-day operations of the department’s athletic events.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the head coach by carrying out assigned responsibilities in student development, recruiting, and retention.
  • Understands and follows NCAA and conference rules and regulations, including Bylaw 13 in the NCAA Division III Manual.
  • Reports any alleged violations of NCAA, conference, or institutional rules and regulations.
  • Coaches position(s) or segments as directed by the head coach, staying informed of contemporary trends, tactics, techniques, and strategies in coaching.
  • Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating practices.
  • Instructs student-athletes on high expectations for academic achievement and monitors their academic progress.
  • Ensures student-athletes adhere to safety standards.
  • Recruits individual student-athletes or territories as directed by the head coach, including identifying potential recruits through off-campus efforts and coordinating on-campus visits.
  • Assists student-athletes and parents in understanding Aurora University’s educational programs, athletic opportunities, and NCAA Division III recruitment rules.
  • Prioritizes retention and development of current student-athletes through bi-weekly academic meetings and individual/group coaching.
  • Maintains sportsmanlike conduct and serves as a role model for team members, officials, opponents, and spectators.
  • Attends athletic department meetings and university community meetings and functions.
  • Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Drives university or rental vehicles for away contests as needed.
  • Performs additional duties as required by the VP for Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two or more years of relevant experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting institutional requirements.
  • Ability to travel between campus locations or to attend off-site meetings.

Skills

  • Organizational skills and understanding of compliance standards and regulations.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a wide range of constituents, including student-athletes, parents, coaches, media, alumni, administrators, support staff, and the broader community.
  • Ability to set and achieve goals, meet deadlines, and demonstrate strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of athletics.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to interact verbally in person, over the telephone, and via written and electronic media.
  • Ability to move about campus and other locations.
  • Evening and weekend availability required.
  • Flexibility with an evolving work environment.

Schedule

  • Fall Season: Approximately 8 hours per week from September 1, 2026 – November 30, 2026.
  • Spring Season: Approximately 15 hours per week from January 30, 2027 – May 15, 2027.

Pay

The pay range referenced is the budgeted amount the university reasonably expects to pay for this position. The final pay rate will not be below the lowest pay rate listed herein. This position is not eligible for benefits.
