Assistant Manager
About the role
This supervisory position is responsible for providing exemplary customer service, driving sales, executing marketing initiatives, assisting with daily operations, and supporting special events within the retail environment at the Sabre Shop located in the Aquatic Fitness Center. The ideal candidate enjoys interacting with customers and delivering exceptional service. Duties include mastering cashier and computer functions, stocking the sales floor, executing merchandising protocols, receiving merchandise and transfers, and ensuring inventory assets are secure. The role requires performing opening and closing functions and maintaining a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, football games, swim meets, and other events.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and train student staff to assist with daily operations
- Create weekly schedules, set clear expectations with staff, and provide feedback as needed
- Maintain a neat, clean, and fully stocked store
- Work directly with the Operations Manager on inventory and operational needs
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Up to 4 years of retail experience
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong mathematical skills
- Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft applications, email, and other basic functions
- Ability to operate a cash register and inventory computer system
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and stand for up to 40 hours per week
Preferred
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience

This is an exempt-level, benefited position based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site. The salary range is $40,000 – $45,000 depending on experience.
