About the role
The Assistant Manager, Wastewater supports the delivery of wastewater operations and maintenance services by assisting with day-to-day coordination, oversight, and supervision of field activities across assigned client sites. In partnership with the Manager, Wastewater, you will help plan, schedule, document, and report to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant system performance, while providing supervisory support to field personnel as needed.
Responsibilities
- Uphold and support Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
- Comply with applicable state and federal environmental and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DEP, and other authorities governing wastewater operations.
- Support the planning, scheduling, and oversight of wastewater treatment, collection, and distribution system operations.
- Coordinate daily activities of operations, maintenance personnel, and contractors to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant service delivery.
- Monitor system performance, identify operational risks and compliance concerns, and support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain operational, maintenance, and regulatory documentation, reports, and records.
- Process and track approved administrative and operational activities, including work orders, purchase orders, service requests, and contracts.
- Support data analysis, reporting, system repairs, startups/shutdowns, and minor capital projects in coordination with internal teams and external service providers.
- Provide supervisory assistance to field personnel in the Manager’s absence.
- Perform other operational and administrative support duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-year or 4-year degree in wastewater, environmental, regulatory, or scientific field preferred, or a combination of primary/technical education and minimum 4 years of related experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience supporting projects, compliance activities, field operations, or service delivery in a regulated environment.
- Hold a Massachusetts Wastewater Grade 2 License (MassDEP) or ability to obtain within six months (company-assisted).
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and related business software for reporting, documentation, and coordination.
- Ability to lead, prioritize, and coordinate multiple operational tasks in a fast-paced, regulated environment while supporting field staff and management.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
- OSHA-10 Certification (company-supported if not current), DOT Medical Card (assistance provided), valid U.S. driver’s license, and ability to travel to job sites.
- Successful drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review per federal/state requirements.
