About the role
Supervises and oversees that all maintenance performed on company aircraft is performed correctly per applicable standards and regulations. Ensures the facility is maintained in compliance with company and OSHA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Supervises mechanics in overall maintenance operations, including preventive maintenance, repair, modifications, and other maintenance of aircraft, components, and related equipment in compliance with 14 CFR, manufacturer specifications, the GMM, company policy and procedures, and other methods accepted by the FAA and OSHA.
- Plans and prioritizes work to minimize delays, increase production and efficiency, and ensure timely delivery of aircraft.
- Supports other maintenance base operations by considering company-wide interests.
- Determines job standards, tests personnel productivity, safety habits, and workmanship.
- Trains and assists mechanics in proper procedures, methods, and practices; continuously evaluates the effectiveness of the OJT program.
- Supervises the handling and operation of shop equipment, ground equipment, vehicles, fuel dispensing equipment, and tools to ensure safe and serviceable conditions.
- Ensures OSHA and safety guidelines are followed; provides safety training as required.
- Ensures adherence to material handling and control procedures as outlined in the GMM and by equipment manufacturers; coordinates with the Materials team to ensure required materials arrive as needed.
- Provides timely and accurate information on aircraft status; communicates aircraft serviceability and readiness to Maintenance Control.
- Oversees the completion of shift turnover reports in accordance with the GMM; conducts shift meetings and briefings; participates in management meetings.
- Ensures all departmental internal company forms, maintenance records, work orders, manual revision compliance, and other documents are completed accurately.
- Monitors and updates timekeeping and payroll entry on a timely basis; investigates pay issues.
- Understands, communicates, and enforces company policies and procedures; recommends changes to the GMM to eliminate conflicts or enhance operational effectiveness.
- Coordinates with human resources for questions or issues regarding leaves of absence, compensation, benefits, and EAP.
- May coordinate with vendors (building maintenance, uniform, janitorial, etc.) to ensure timely provision of services.
- Screens, interviews, and makes recommendations for hiring potential employees; coaches and provides leadership, direction, and motivation to direct reports.
- Appraises performance, provides feedback, takes corrective actions, and oversees training and development of staff.
- Fosters the company’s core values and culture throughout the work environment.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license plus 4 years of A&P experience on similar aircraft.
- Previous supervisory or lead experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Stable employment history.
- Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Possess the required tools.
- Able to work both in a team setting and individually.
- Able to prioritize multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
- Must be able to communicate in an effective, calm, and professional manner at all times.
- Able to pass an FAA-required 10-year work history review and pass criminal background and fingerprint checks.
- Willing to submit to and pass FAA and company-mandated random drug and alcohol tests.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, management, aircraft maintenance, or a related field.
- 4 years of A&P mechanic experience on similar aircraft.
- RII and Run and Taxi qualifications on applicable aircraft.
Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates.
- Ability to define problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
- Able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and reach with hands/arms up to 50% of the time.
- Able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl up to 50% of the time.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds at least 35% of the time; able to lift or move 75 pounds over 10% of the time.
- Must be able to see to perform work and to see approaching vehicles, aircraft, and machinery.
Work Environment
- Work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles over 90% of the time.
- Work in high, precarious places up to 10% of the time.
- Work around toxic or caustic chemicals up to 20% of the time.
- Risk of electric shock and work with explosives up to 10% of the time.
- Work in outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar up to 50% of the time.
- Very loud work environment.
- Able to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays to support 24-hour operations.
Travel Requirements
Able to travel up to 20% of the time, including overnight stays.
