About the role
The Assistant Harbormaster performs duties requiring considerable discretion, judgment, and initiative in enforcing applicable laws and interacting with varied organizations and the public.
Responsibilities
- Enforce laws and regulations related to public safety and waterway management
- Conduct rescue operations and provide recreational services
- Engage with the public and various organizations
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid Driver’s license required
- Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR for Professional Rescuer certification, or ability to obtain within two months of employment
- Current Massachusetts Boating Safety Certificate or equivalent, or ability to obtain within two months of employment
Qualifications
The Town will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteerism, education, and transferable skills unless a required degree, license, or certification is specified. Preferred qualifications include:
- Certified graduate from a full-time MPTC recruit academy or Bridge Academy exemption
- USCG Merchant Mariner Credential with OUPV or Master Endorsement
- Current EMS First Responder certification pursuant to 105 CMR 170
Pay
This non-union position (Grade 8) starts at $26.05 hourly, with progression through a step system to a maximum of $31.75 hourly. Hiring rate depends on qualifications.
