About the Role

Plan, coordinate, and direct the execution of complex and complicated environmental stewardship and recreation programs that are subject to numerous challenges. Apply professional principles of public land use and conservation, park administration, public use management, and wildlife management. Responsible for serving a large geographical area, including 23 major public reservoirs and surrounding public lands in two states. Review and interpret laws and regulations and develop policies to ensure consistent allocation across the district.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and direct environmental stewardship and recreation programs.
• Apply principles of public land use, conservation, park administration, public use management, and wildlife management.
• Manage a large geographical area, including 23 major public reservoirs and surrounding public lands in two states.
• Review and interpret laws and regulations to develop consistent policies across the district.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is supervisory and requires a one-year supervisory probation period.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Requires completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• Requires a valid driver's license.
• Must obtain a boating license within a year.
• Must wear a uniform and appropriate safety gear and protective clothing as required while on duty.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
• Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in the fields listed above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
• Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level with managing natural resources and outdoor recreation programs.
• Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program.

• Temporary promotion not to exceed one year, extendable up to five years.
• Time-limited reassignments and change to lower grade may exceed five years, but return rights may be impacted.
• Placement may be made permanent without further competition.
