About the role
Aviagen Turkeys Inc. is hiring Assistant Farm Leads to support the daily operation of breeder farms.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily flock care activities to ensure the health and wellbeing of breeder flocks.
- Monitor bird health by observing activity, appearance, appetite, and mortality. Report concerns and take appropriate corrective action.
- Operate and maintain watering, feeding, ventilation, and environmental control systems.
- Maintain litter quality and overall barn conditions.
- Follow all company biosecurity, safety, and animal welfare policies and procedures.
- Maintain fences, buildings, equipment, landscaping, safety equipment, laundry facilities, and other farm assets.
- Maintain the dark out integrity of poultry houses.
- Ensure shower facilities, entry buildings, break rooms, and storage areas remain clean, organized, and inspection ready.
- Cook with the Rearing Farms Manager to ensure facility maintenance and farm cleanout activities are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate farm and flock records.
- Document inventories of feed, birds, LP gas, bagged shavings, and other supplies.
- Maintain and update the Flock Activity Schedule and ensure accurate Pen ID information.
- Travel between assigned farm locations to provide operational support and Farm Manager coverage.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Reliable transportation with the ability to travel between assigned farm locations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and emergency call outs.
- Strong observation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of animal care.
- Basic mechanical aptitude, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or the ability to learn.
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and communication.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and work in varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely perform all aspects of flock care, including the humane handling and disposal of deceased birds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all biosecurity procedures.
