Assistant Engineer (Civil/Geotechnical) - VID 222007
Responsibilities
- Supervise and inspect building construction projects of moderate size and complexity.
- Coordinate the operations of contractors and ensure conformity of work to contract estimates, specifications, standards, and construction practices.
- Assist higher-level staff on larger projects.
- Recommend and prepare contract change orders.
- May supervise consultant work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE).
- One of the following:
- A qualifying bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Civil Engineering Technology
- Environmental Engineering
- Environmental Engineering Technology
- Environmental Design Engineering
- Environmental Resources Engineering
- Environmental Systems Engineering
- Forest Engineering
- Geological Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Materials Engineering
- Materials Science and Engineering
- Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above-listed engineering degrees
- One year of full-time qualifying engineering experience related to geotechnical engineering practices.
- A qualifying bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following fields:
- Current New York State employees with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law may also qualify.
Resumes must include month and year for start and end dates of work experience. If any experience is less than full-time, indicate the average number of hours worked per week.
Additional Information
- Travel may be required (approximately 20%).
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Candidates hired via the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS) will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period. Within one year of permanent appointment, non-competitive employment status is expected to convert to competitive status without requiring an exam. Employees will then have the same rights and privileges as competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Pay
Salary adjustments for positions at the Assistant level in Albany include a geographic pay differential of $7,000 added to the hiring salary.
