Duties Description

Duties include but may not be limited to:

  • Aid in performing geotechnical engineering duties including determining soil and field material, ground seepage, and detailed soil mechanics.
  • Collect and analyze data on bedrock, foundations, and aquifer systems to inform subsurface construction plans. Investigate subsurface conditions, determine engineering properties of materials, and apply findings to design decisions and recommendations.
  • Prepare geotechnical drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Cookordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other disciplines.
  • Aid in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
  • Aid in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
  • Aid with the supervision of consultant design work.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress.
  • Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
  • Aid in review and coordination of submittals, contractor Requests for Informations, Information Bulletins, and other construction administration and observation tasks during the project’s construction.
  • Aid with supervision of junior staff.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Operational Needs

Travel may be required (approximately 20%). Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below;
  • Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
  • Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
  • Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience related to geotechnical engineering practices.
  • This title includes a traineeship opportunity, and applicants must meet one of the following:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above).
  • Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience (listed above).
  • Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
