Assistant Engineer (Civil/Construction) (NY HELPS) - VID 208353
Duties
Aid in performing civil engineering tasks such as gathering and analyzing data on existing infrastructure, topography, and environmental conditions. Review water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and other infrastructure systems.
Create and detail site civil drawings, prepare specifications, estimates, and studies for design projects under the guidance of licensed staff. Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, and other disciplines.
Schedule assigned projects based on workload, priorities, and design schedules. Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants. Supervise consultant design work. Maintain project documentation, including meeting records, correspondence, and progress notes.
Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are achieved. Review submittals, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide construction administration and observation during project construction. Supervise junior staff members.
Operational Needs
Travel may be required approximately 20% of the time. Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Pass the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and hold a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above).
- One year of full-time engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements of the building.
- Traineeship opportunity available; must meet one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above).
- Pass the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and one year of full-time engineering experience (listed above).
- Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 16 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
