Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering duties related to the preparation of structural steel or reinforced concrete designs, specifications, and estimates for new construction of State facilities and rehabilitation and/or repair of State facilities.
  • Assist in the management of client capital construction programs.
  • Assist in the development and revision of office processes as required.
  • May supervise consultant work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel may be required (approximately 20%). Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Requirements

  • Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and one of the following:
    • A qualifying bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
    • One year of full-time qualifying engineering experience in the analysis and design of steel framing, concrete framing, concrete foundations, and seismic design.
  • Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Resumes must include month and year for start and end dates of work experience. If any experience is less than full time, the average number of hours worked per week must be indicated.

Pay

Salary adjustments for positions at the Assistant level in Albany include a $7,000 geographic pay differential added to the hiring salary.

Additional Information

This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period. Within one year of permanent appointment, non-competitive employment status is expected to convert to competitive status without requiring an exam. Employees will then have the same rights and privileges as competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
