Duties

Aid in performing structural engineering tasks such as designing structural steel or reinforced concrete for new construction and rehabilitation/repair projects.

  • Prepare structural drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and studies for design projects under the guidance of licensed staff.
  • Coordinate design drawings and related documents with other design disciplines.
  • Schedule assigned projects according to workload and design schedules.
  • Assist in reviewing reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
  • Supervise consultant design work.
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including meeting minutes, correspondence, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Assist with reviewing submittals, responding to contractor Requests for Information, creating and/or reviewing Information Bulletins, and providing construction administration and observation during project construction.
  • Supervise junior staff members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Operational Needs

Travel may be required approximately 20% of the time. A valid driver’s license is required.

Note

This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered, which include passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and holding a qualifying degree or engineering experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pass the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and hold a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology.
  • One year of full-time engineering experience in steel framing, concrete framing, concrete foundations, and seismic design.
  • Traineeship opportunity available; meet one of the following criteria:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Pass the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and one year of full-time engineering experience.
  • Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a Grade 18 or above position eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
