Assistant Director Physical Medicine

Description Of Position

The Assistant Director Physical Medicine is responsible for assisting the Director of Physical Medicine with overall direction and supervision of professional and support staff of Physical Therapy, Physical Rehab and Outpatient Rehab departments. The Assistant Director serves as a resource for Rehab Services leadership and staff, supports regulatory and quality initiatives, and acts on behalf of the Director as delegated.

Responsibilities

• Affirms department compliance with EMR changes and education requirements
• Conducts routine audits of EMR documentation
• Assists Director with supervision of Rehab Services’ leadership and staff positions
• Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote physical therapy within the community
• Assists with complaint/resolution and communicates effectively with other professional staff to achieve positive patient outcomes
• Aids in development and compliance of annual budgets for Rehabilitation Services, which reflect yearly operational needs for direct and indirect expenses
• Coordinates with Director Physical Medicine all aspects of the wage and salary program
• Conducts and/or assures required departmental meetings and coordinates in-service education
• Affirms compliance with departmental policies
• Is knowledgeable of, creates, and implements policies and guidelines
• Coordinates hospital and departmental cost saving and productivity initiatives
• Aids Rehab Services managers and team leaders with staff communication, problem solving, and operational improvements; matters requiring escalation will be communicated to the Director as appropriate
• Affirms oversight of regulatory compliance of Rehab Services
• Promotes employee engagement and a positive work culture
• Aids in recruitment efforts including candidate screening, interviewing, selection, and onboarding processes
• Affirms monitoring and maintaining employee compliance requirements including annual competencies, licensure and certification verification, employee health requirements, influenza vaccinations, FIT testing, education and training documentation
• Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans
• Implements plan of care based on assessments
• Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care

Education And Work Experience

• BS, MS or doctorate degree in physical therapy from an accredited institution required
• Current license to practice physical therapy in the state of Louisiana required
• Maintains required hours of in-service per year to meet requirements for CEU's as stipulated by the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy
• At least 4 years of on-the-job training to become familiar with hospital equipment and regulations
• At least 4 years’ experience in physical therapy supervisory role is required
• CPR certification as outlined in the hospital’s policies and procedures
• Ability to remain calm in an emergency or crisis situations
• Necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services
• Capable of clear and succinct verbal and written communication; possess a high level of patience and tenacity; capable of rapid problem identification and resolution
• Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Work is medium, preferably up to 50 pounds of lifting or carrying without help or over 50 pounds with help
• Included is handling patients of all weights, with help as needed, to perform transfers, bed mobility, getting into equipment, and getting into and out of clothing
• Positions required include standing and walking on a frequent basis; sitting, kneeling, and stair climbing on an occasional basis; stooping and bending on a frequent basis to assist patients; overhead reach on occasional basis; pushing/pulling on a frequent basis including wheelchairs, stretchers, and pulling or tugging on patients
