Assistant Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid

Advise and counsel full and part-time undergraduate students and families on financial aid availability, delivery processes, and reconciliation procedures. Review student financial aid applications, complete awarding based on federal and institutional policies, perform verification procedures, evaluate appeals, and coordinate with departments such as Deans, Registrar, Co-op, Residence Life, and Athletics. Assist with operational tasks within the Student Financial Services undergraduate financial aid team and support the management of institutional scholarships, grants, and federal aid for undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design and implementation of policies and procedures for undergraduate financial aid.
  • Integrate federal regulations and Northeastern application and awarding policies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assess and improve operational workflows and resolve issues.
  • Support the Director and Associate Director of Undergraduate Aid with tasks such as verification, Return to Title IV calculations, and auditing financial aid awards.
  • Supervise financial aid counselors, define responsibilities, monitor performance, and handle personnel development and HR-related issues.
  • Train staff on Title IV regulations and Northeastern policies.
  • Resolve escalated cases from the undergraduate financial aid counselor team.
  • Counsel and advise students and parents on financial aid processes, awarding, and financing options through appointments, email, correspondence, and phone communication.
  • Explain financial aid processes, NU billing procedures, and provide conflict resolution with student accounts, lenders, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor satisfactory academic progress and administer federal, state, and Northeastern-based financial assistance.
  • Review student applications, perform federal and institutional need analysis, determine eligibility, evaluate appeals, and verify information according to federal processes.
  • Implement Northeastern-based awarding guidelines.
  • Represent Student Financial Services at university-wide open houses, student meetings, workshops, and informational sessions to advise on the financial aid process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Progressive experience in higher education financial aid administration demonstrating organizational, managerial, and budgetary skills.
  • Experience with budget reconciliation and proficiency in Title IV and state regulations.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with PowerFAIDS preferred.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships within the university community.
  • Ability to balance institutional policies and aid program regulations with the individual needs of students.

Pay

Expected hiring range: $53,615.00 - $75,728.75. The starting salary will depend on education, experience, location, knowledge, expertise, and skills, as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
