Assistant Director of Financial Aid
About the Role
The Assistant Director of Financial Aid analyzes student financial aid data and operates within federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines. This role awards financial assistance to eligible students, provides related counseling services for students and parents, and assists in the administration of the Financial Aid Department.
Responsibilities
- Counsel and advise students and families regarding all aspects of financial aid, including affordability and emotional support.
- Communicate effectively with other members of the Saint Vincent College (SVC) community regarding financial aid matters.
- Maintain current knowledge of financial aid practices through training, webinars, and research.
- Recommend and assist with the development of financial aid policies and procedures.
- Train support staff and work-study students as needed.
- Assist students and families with all financial aid functions, regardless of program responsibility.
- Manage specific financial aid programs, including federal, state, and locally sponsored programs, tuition waivers, verification, withdrawals, and more. Responsibilities include awarding, reporting, reconciling, and developing written procedures.
- Support the Director of Financial Aid as needed and advise students and families on available financial aid programs.
- Participate in development projects related to automation, reporting, and tracking mechanisms for Colleague.
- Present financial aid information at Admission events.
- Work extended hours during peak processing times and special events.
- Travel occasionally for financial aid training, depending on content and funding availability.
- Work independently, make sound decisions using professional judgment, and meet deadlines for special projects while completing daily tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Financial Aid Office.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience working in a Financial Aid Office is required.
Work Environment
- All duties require strict confidentiality regarding sensitive student and family information.
- This position operates closely as part of a team with the Director, Assistant Director, and Student Services Assistant, as well as other offices in the SVC community, including Admission, Student Accounts, and the Registrar.
- While this description outlines general duties, the staff member may be required to perform additional assignments related to the effective operation of the department or for professional development.
