About the role

The ADON will assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility.

Responsibilities

  • Confer with the Director of Nursing and/or other licensed nursing personnel regarding the dermatologic disorders of residents in the facility
  • Examine the resident and his/her records and charts, and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings, in order to recognize when to refer the resident to a physician for evaluation, supervision, or directions
  • Provide assessment and diagnostic services to residents. Perform an assessment evaluation using techniques including observation, inspection, and palpation
  • Initiate requests for consultation or referral. Respond to requests from the resident, physician, or nursing staff
  • Absorb resident rehabilitation activities. Where required, perform range of motion, assist in ambulation, provide emotional support. Monitor the results of physical therapy activities
  • Provide preventative health care services. Make recommendations to the resident concerning nutrition, prevention of common skin disorders, etc.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the attending physician, Medical Director, or the DON concerning the status and care of the residents
  • Implement and maintain established policies and procedures relative to RN care treatments. Interpret these to the physician, resident family members, and public as appropriate
  • Absorb administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
  • Monitor the facility’s QI, QM and survey reports and provide the Director with recommendations that will be helpful in eliminating problem areas
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to Administrator
  • Service on the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as directed
  • Schedule, attend, and participate in developing the agenda for the Care Plan Team Meetings as required
  • Absorb direct nursing care as necessary. Report problem areas to Director
  • Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training that provide instructions on “how to do the job” and ensure a well-educated nursing department
  • Absorb other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years of experience as an RN
  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Registered Nurse with current unencumbered state license
  • Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility
  • Must have, as a minimum of 6 months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • Current CPR Certification is required
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and general public
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as at the willingness to handle difficult residents
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition
