Assistant Director of Clinical Services

About the Role

Assistant Director of Clinical Services – Residential Hospice, a registered nurse, assists with the operational and clinical oversight of the Medicare-certified Residential Hospice facility. This position provides direction to the interdisciplinary group (IDG)—including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and certified nursing assistants—to deliver exceptional, compassionate, and patient-centered end-of-life care.

The role is responsible for establishing, implementing, and evaluating clinical policies, quality improvement initiatives, and educational programs that advance the organization's mission while maintaining strict adherence to Medicare Conditions of Participation and regulatory standards. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Clinical Services supports team development, manages resource utilization, and facilitates admissions and community collaboration to champion a culture of clinical excellence and compassionate hospice care.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Leadership:
  • Assists in providing oversight and direction to the interdisciplinary group (IDG), which includes nurses, social workers, chaplains, and certified nursing assistants.
  • Ensures the provision of comprehensive, patient-centered care that meets the individual needs of each patient and their family.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with Medicare Conditions of Participation and related federal and state regulations.
  • Facilitates appropriate Residential Hospice admissions through the review and interpretation of submitted patient information, and by direction of the admissions team. Promotes hospice referrals in the health care community.
  • Promotes continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of care and patient outcomes. Ensures the quality and safe delivery of hospice services provided through the Residential Hospice.
  • Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports, and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organization activities. Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Assists in ensuring adequate and appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment for the provision of patient services.
  • In the absence of the Director of Clinical Services, the Assistant Director of Clinical Services will become the acting Director of Clinical Services at the Residential Hospice and will be vested with authority and act on behalf of the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Assists in the development of organizational goals.
• Team Management:
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the onboarding for new residential staff.
  • Provides oversight, guidance, and counseling to clinical staff to assist them in continually improving all aspects of hospice care services, provided through organization personnel.
  • Fosters a positive and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork, professional development, and employee engagement.
  • Assists in conducting performance evaluations, provides mentorship, and identifies opportunities for staff growth.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the orientation program for new clinical services personnel.
  • Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs to meet the education and training needs of organization personnel directly or delegated.
• Regulatory Compliance:
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of all applicable federal and state regulations governing residential hospice facilities.
  • Ensures compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, state licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Oversees the accurate and timely completion of all clinical documentation.
• Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborates effectively with the medical director, attending physicians, members of the leadership team, and clinical staff.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Participates in IDG meetings, providing clinical expertise and guidance.
  • Assists in the development of organizational goals.
  • Develops, recommends, and administers organization policies and procedures.
• Budgetary Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Director of Clinical Services in the preparation and administration of the organization's budget.
  • Monitors expenses and resource utilization to ensure cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota with current and unencumbered licensure to practice professional nursing in Minnesota.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program by the National League for Nursing or an Associate degree in Nursing with 5+ years of experience in hospice or a related field. Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care (CHPN) preferred.
• 1 year of leadership experience in a hospice or related health care organization.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation and state regulations governing hospice care.
• Excellent observation, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations, and CHAP standards.

Pay

The salary range is $46.00-$54.00 per hour.

Schedule

This position is on-site daily and 72-80 hours per two-week pay period.
