About the role

The New York City Law Department is seeking an Assistant Corporation Counsel, Electronic Discovery Attorney, in its Labor and Employment Law Division. The Division defends the City in complex and challenging state and federal actions arising from the City’s role as an employer. The Electronic Discovery Attorney supports Division attorneys by conducting comprehensive searches of both paper and electronic records for document production, and by coordinating with information technology systems across City agencies to address complex discovery requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support Division attorneys by conducting comprehensive searches of both paper and electronic records for document production.
  • Cook with information technology systems across City agencies to address complex discovery requirements.
  • Provide guidance on all stages of the e discovery process, including issuing preservation notices, drafting and negotiating agreements pertaining to electronically stored information (ESI), evaluating confidentiality stipulations, and reviewing affirmative and responsive correspondence and motions related to ESI production.
  • Participate in meet and confer sessions with opposing counsel and appear at court conferences where ESI related matters are addressed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in the State of New York.
  • Experience in electronic discovery management, including an understanding of and exposure to litigation involving the exchange of paper and electronic discovery.
  • Experience in large case volume.
  • Experience and strong technical skills with litigation support and document review platforms.
  • Able to communicate technical ESI concepts to attorneys and clients.
  • Admission to practice in the Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York is preferred.

Qualifications

Pay

  • For 0-5 years of legal experience: $87,737 - $122,300
  • For 5-10 years of legal experience: $122,300 - $137,188
  • For 10-15 years of legal experience: $137,188 - $159,521
  • For 15-20 years of legal experience: $159,521 - $180,791
  • For 20+ years of legal experience: $180,791 - $188,235

  • Attorneys may elect to participate in one of two remote work programs:
  • Flexible Remote Work: Limited, irregular work from home days.
  • Citywide Pilot Program: Two set days per week working remotely, subject to Division approval and staffing needs.
